Camping Viter to Slona. More hills. 88kms

Once again we were fast asleep by 9.30pm.  I'm looking forward to our rest day in a days time. We got away nice and early from the camp and after breakfast we were on our way by 7.30am.

No sooner had we rolled out of camp and the road started to head towards heaven.  The first climb was close to 8kms and then we started to go inland. The scenery was vastly different to other days with the road now surrounded by ancient villages and pine forests.  By climbing high would give us great views into the valley below.

At times we had little shoulder to ride on but at least the cars and buses did give us a bit of room to ride on.  After about 20kms of riding in the mountains we stopped at a small village for a morning tea break.
After morning tea it was onto another climb.  The photo above was taken 1/2 way up yet another climb.  We rode along a ridge for an hour and then came to a road sign which was very similar to a border crossing sign.  We came around a corner and there was a border crossing to enter the country of Bosnia Herzegovina.  I had no idea we were going to enter this country and was thinking for a moment did we miss a sign post and now we were going into the unknown.  After about 5 kms we stopped for lunch and checked out our bearing.  It appears that this country has a small border that links to the Adriatic  coastline.  No sooner had we enter the country and we were back in Croatia heading for Slona our resting place for the evening.
The photo above shows Croatia on the left and Bosnia Herzegovina on the right.

During the afternoon we continued climbing and climbing with not much in the way of village life.  Eventually we got a glimpse of Slona in the distance and made our way down to the Adriatic and started the search for a room.  We had camped the last 3 nights and now it was time to take a room and enjoy some air con and some room to stretch out.

We found the hotel Kolarin which is about 25metres from the water as the perfect place to rest our tired old bodies.  I went for a swim to cool down and then joined Peter in the bar for a coffee.

Tomorrow we have a short ride to our campsite outside of Dubrovnik.  I think it should be about 25kms.  We're going to have a rest day in Dubrovnik sightseeing and then head onto Montenegro and the dreaded black mountain climb.

Until tomorrow, safe riding.
