NO Len, I'm not eating rat.

You're joking if you think I'm eating rat.

After dinner, we went back to the Botoum Hotel to chill out for the evening.  By the time 9.30pm came around it was time to turn the TV off and get some much needed sleep.  The heat today really drained us.

Today was up at 8am for breakfast at the same place we had dinner last night.  A breakfast of ham and cheese omelet, strong coffee, toast and tea, cost about $2.  We hit the road at 8.45 for the 70 ride to Battambang in the south.  We expected it to be as hot as yesterday.  I think we need to be on the road by 7.30am at the latest in future.  It's not healthy riding in over 100 degree heat in the middle of the day. And at times it was 100 degrees in the shade today.

We stopped a couple of times today to get out of the sun and to fill the bottles.  We were going through a litre an hour.  We passed so many little towns that are not even on the map.  Small towns with lovely children waving us on our way.  This is a huge change to the Ethiopian children who wave in one hand and through rocks in the other.   The place we stopped for a long break was like so many we passed today.  I took a photo of sausages hanging in the open air with all the vegetables.  They don't believe in refrigeration.  I didn't try the sausages either.

Now the photo above is a tray of cooked rats.  Now Len was insisting that I at least take a bite to see what they taste like.  He reckons they breed them for eating.  Bullshit Len.  There was no way I was going to eat that crap.

With a couple more stop to top up the water bottles, we rolled into Battambang around 1.30pm.  We looked around for a place to stay and found the Banon Hotel in the centre of town.  It costs $20 a night with breakfast.  The rooms are huge and a king size bed so I can spread out just like a king.  Wifi is good in the room.

The only problem is that the TV is in Khmer which doesn't help me.

Tonight we're going to the night market for dinner and head back to the hotel to watch Cambodian TV.  I'm going to download a movie and watch Jack Reacher.   Tomorrow is a rest day to ride the Bamboo Railway.

The ladies at our long stop.

 Safe riding.
